National Falls Prevention Week

National Falls Prevention Week 23rd – 27th September 2024

From Awareness to Action

National Falls Awareness Week is an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness about the risks and prevention of falls, especially among older adults.

Falls are not a normal part of ageing.
Most falls can be prevented and older adults have the power to reduce their risk of falling.
Maintaining physical activity and boosting fitness levels are a key part of reducing the risk of falls.
Falls are a major cause of injury and hospitalization, and this awareness week highlights ways to prevent falls by encouraging simple lifestyle changes and promoting safety measures at home.

Key focuses include maintaining physical strength through exercises like balance training, improving home safety by removing tripping hazards, and regular vision and hearing checks.
